Episode 03: Opening Our little store

Embarking on our journey to open a small store in the Philippines required careful planning and thorough research. Our goal wasn't to chase massive profits, but rather to create a space where we could connect with the local community and address their needs.

My wife and I came to the decision that our store would offer a diverse range of products and services. We started by stocking a chest freezer full of ice cream, instantly becoming a hit with all the children in the area. Additionally, we made sure to provide school supplies, as well as photocopying and lamination services. Recognizing the importance of food, we purchased another freezer and filled it with various options such as fish products, hot dogs, sausages, spam, and small bags of ice. We understood that many people in the community relied on purchasing items to meet their daily needs. Working in the store allowed us to witness firsthand the struggles and challenges faced by the local people. It became clear to both Gina and me that, with the support of our friends and followers, we could contribute significantly to meeting their needs.

While our efforts would certainly alleviate some of the daily pressures they faced, we also acknowledged that the people of the Philippines were some of the hardest-working individuals we had ever encountered. Through our little store, we aimed to create a space where people could not only find essential supplies but also feel a sense of community and connection. We wanted to build relationships with our customers, to listen to their stories, and to provide support in any way we could. As we embarked on this journey, we knew that the impact we would make might be small in the grand scheme of things, but we believed that every act of kindness and every effort to meet someone's needs was meaningful. Our little store became a beacon of hope and support, a place where the community could find solace and assistance. Together, with the local people, our friends, and our followers, we strived to create a store that went beyond transactions. It became a place of compassion, understanding, and genuine care. And in the process, we discovered that by helping others, we were also nurturing our own souls and finding deeper fulfillment in life.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."
